Local Cessation Classes

The Tobacco Control Program based in Tallahassee (founded after the State's tobacco lawsuit) is administered locally in Palm Beach County at the local Health Dept in the Health Education and Promotion Division.

   There are two main components of the program, SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) and the Tobacco-Free Partnership of  Palm Beach County.

SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) and the Tobacco-Free Partnership of Palm Beach County. SWAT is the youth advocacy component of the program. The activities of SWAT are supported through the work plan and budget allocations of the Tobacco Partnership.  

Five goal areas comprise this work plan which include:

 

  • Changing  Attitudes About Tobacco


  •  
  • Increasing Youth Empowerment Through Community Involvement
     

  • Reducing Accessibility and Availability of Tobacco to Youth
     

  • Reducing Youth Exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke
     

  • Reducing The Prevalence of  Tobacco Use Among High Risk Youth Populations.

This is a low cost policy for residents of Palm Beach County who have no health insurance coverage or have lost their coverage for over 6 months.
