Approximately 3000 licensed public swimming pools serve
municipalities, condominiums, apartments, homeowners associations, churches, clubs, camps and other organizations. As required by statute, plans for each pool are reviewed by our Plan & Review Permit
department, eliminating unsafe or unsanitary designs. After a pool is built and approved by the PBCHD, it is inspected at least twice annually to help ensure a safe and sanitary operation. In addition to
sparkling blue water and chemical balance, the inspectors check a host of other items including depth markings, life saving equipment, posted rules, disinfectant equipment, and a current maintenance log.
Under water recreation we also monitor the bacteriological levels of the
municipal beaches of the fifty miles of shoreline in Palm Beach County. Results of the sampling are available back to 1949. The ocean waters of Palm Beach County are of excellent
quality. PBCHD must occasionally post a health
warning; however, due to an accidental spill or flooding.
