Let’s Move!

letsmove.gov - America's Move to Raise a Healthier Generation of Kids

    The problem of childhood obesity and overweight has become quite a weighty one. Obesity rates have tripled in the past 30 years. If this trend continues, for the first time in history, American children may face a shorter life expectancy thanMother and Daughter selecting Vegetables in the Market. their parents. Our children today are experiencing chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes at an alarming rate. In response to this overwhelming health crisis, the White House, with First Lady Michelle Obama leading the charge, has started an initiative aimed at increasing the chances youngsters have to lead healthy, active lives. Let’s Move is the name of this exciting new initiative.

Let’s Move will bring together leaders from all areas of child health, such as medical, government, and community leaders to address the challenge of childhood obesity. There are several goals of the initiative, including:

  • Teaching parents how to make healthy choices for their kids
  • Providing healthier food in schools
  • Inspiring kids to be physically active
  • Making healthy, affordable food available in every part of our country
