PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL To honor Black History Month a number of organizations are sponsoring a Community Health Awareness Fair in West Palm Beach on Saturday, February 10, 2001 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The event, being hosted at the Trinity United Methodist Church of West Palm Beach, will feature food, games various health screenings including HIV testing in the hopes of enhancing a healthier lifestyle. At noon Addie Greene, Palm Beach County Commissioner, will address the attendees on the health of her district and other county issues.
Black History Month began as a one week celebration in 1924 to honor two Americans that dramatically affected the lives of black Americans: Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and Frederick Douglass (February 14). This observance officially became Black History Month in 1976.
The Community Health Awareness Fair is being sponsored by the Palm Beach County Health Department, Comprehensive AIDS program of Palm Beach County and Trinity United Methodist Church of West Palm Beach at 1401 9th Street.
