Press Release

Health Department Fetes 2 year old

<< Back to Press

For Release   Wednesday, 12th September,  2001

PALM BEACH COUNTY, What will happen when you fill a room with children just as they are reaching that early stage in life called The Terrible Two’s? The Palm Beach County Health Department along with the Junior League of the Palm Beaches and the March of Dimes are about to find out when they host Shots 2 Celebrate, Saturday October 13, 2001 in West Palm Beach.

The celebration is a way to congratulate parents with two-year-old children that have successfully completed their early childhood immunizations. Kim Reed, Co-Chairman from the Junior League commented, When the Health Department approached us about supporting this event we immediately thought it was a great way to recognize those who are keeping their children protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.  Reed added, What better way to reward the parents and children than by hosting a party.

The party begins at 10:00 AM on the 13th and continues until 1:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church/Samaritan Gardens Health Center, 1101 S. Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach. Two-year-olds and their parents will be treated to refreshments, games, face painting, story telling, music, and some great door prizes geared toward parents. The first 200 children will also receive a free T-shirt commemorating the event.

Admission is free with proof that a child born between October 1998 and April 2000 has completed their shots. Area Doctors or the Health Department will be happy to supply parents with the proof needed for admission. Persons can also call the Health Department at 930-3344 for further information.

By the time a child reaches 2 they should have been vaccinated against, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hib, Hepatitis B, Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Polio and Pneumococcal Conjugate. Dr. Savita Kumar, Epidemiologist for the Health Department said, All of these vaccines are very effective and can help a child begin life free from many diseases. Dr. Kumar added, A physician should be consulted to administer and monitor all childhood vaccines.

The Palm Beach County Childhood Immunization Coalition is assisting with the logistics of the event and will be available to give immunizations the day of the party.
