VOLUNTEERS SHINE AT 
HEALTH DEPARTMENT

     PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL-During its 24th annual Volunteer recognition luncheon the Palm Beach County Health Department recognized the efforts of all of its volunteers and gave special awards to over 30 individuals including the C.L. Brumback award for Volunteer of the Year.

     Recipient of the volunteer of the year award was, Mollie Morris of Delray Beach, Morris has given her time the past 13 years at the Health Department’s Delray Beach Clinic. “There never seems to be any task too small or too large for her to administer.” Commented, Clinic Volunteer Coordinator, Barbara Purr. Morris is involved in collecting toys for the children at Christmas, coordinates other volunteer’s time, decorates baskets to give at Easter, addresses envelopes and stays involved in other office activities. A retired remedial reading teacher from the New York City Public School System, Morris moved to Delray Beach 22 years ago.

     Five of the eight primary care health centers, located throughout the county, presented individuals volunteering at the centers with special recognition. The recipients were: 

     Eleanor Tuchschneider, West Palm Beach, contributed over 180 hours in the past year to the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) programs, has volunteered since 1990 and helps the West Palm Beach Clinic Auxiliary extend and provide non-budgeted services for the medically indigent clients,

    Libby Mykitka, Lantana/Lake Worth, volunteered over 253 hours in the A.G. Holley Laboratory and assisted the Lantana/Lake Worth Auxiliary. Mykitka, is retired from the State Laboratory and continues to volunteer where needed to prevent work interruptions.

     Patricia Konefe, Jupiter Center, a volunteer since 2000 Konefe coordinated the food and clothing pantry for the health center and participated in all special projects.  

     Violet Goldman, Delray Beach, a volunteer for over 20 years, is also a certified Childbirth Educator and works with maternity patients and WIC recipients.

     Mercedes Robinson, Belle Glade, is a former school administrator and board member of Wee Care Childcare Services, and dedicates numerous hours to the health issues facing the residents of the Belle Glade area.

    Numerous other awards were given for longevity and community service throughout the luncheon.

     The volunteer program with the Palm Beach County Health Department is managed through its Public/Private partnerships. Those wishing to volunteer can call 561/355-3013 or any of the Health Centers located throughout the county.
