WEST PALM BEACH -Breastfeeding is an excellent way to satisfy a baby's dietary needs. This time honored tradition will be recognized in a walk at City Place on Saturday August 4, 2002 as part of World Breastfeeding Week.
The walk this year will begin in front of FAO Schwartz and continue around City Place beginning at 10:00 AM. Sponsored by the local non-profit La Leche League funds raised will be used to educate women on the benefits and management of breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is well recognized as a means to protect, promote and support the health of infants and young children. Breast milk has been known to foster optimal growth, and development of an infant's brain, immune system and general physiology which are vital factors in preventing common illnesses.
Mothers can also derive benefits from breastfeeding as it establishes a closeness and trusting relationship between mother and baby. The physical benefits include; reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers, brittle bones and it can boost the immune system.
The week of August 1-7, 2002 is World Breastfeeding Week which is an opportunity to focus on the health issues and health care practices in support of breastfeeding mothers and babies. Persons interested in participating can register in front of FAO Schwartz at City Place in West Palm Beach beginning at 10:00 AM, August 3. In conjunction with the walk there will be face painting, T-shirts, balloons and other great door prizes. The requested donation is $12 per adult and $10 per child.
