WEST PALM BEACH, FL-The West Palm Beach Public Health Center, 705 Olive, will be closed for medical and clinical services beginning Friday October 25 and will reopen at its new facility, 1150 45th Street, on Tuesday November 12, 2002.
Dr. Richard Birnberg, Clinic Director, has adjusted patient appointment schedules to accommodate needed services during this brief period. Others needing appointments, service advice or other medical questions can call the new clinic and speak with a nurse beginning Monday October 28, 2002 at 561 514-5300.
WIC, Vital Statistic, Nutrition, Health Care District, Pharmacy and Laboratory, also located in the West Palm Beach Clinic, will be moving and opening as their areas are completed prior to November 12, 2002.
The current schedule for these programs is as follows:

Vital Statistics closed Monday, October 28, reopen
October 31, 8:00 AM
- WIC/Nutrition closed Monday, October 28, reopen Monday, November 4, 8:00
AM Appointments only (regular service November 12)
- Laboratory testing, limited services beginning October 30 full services
available Monday, November 4, 2002.
- Immunizations Closed until November 12,
- Health Care District Eligibility Office closed October 25 reopen November
4, 8:00 AM (Hospital discharges and other emergency issues report to 301
Broadway Clinic during close)
- Pharmacy closed October 25 reopens November 12. Clients requiring services
go to 301 Broadway, Riviera Beach or Delray Center at 225 Congress, Delray
Beach.
- Dental Services Closed until November 12.
The new West Palm Beach Health Center is 56,000 square feet which makes it one of the largest facilities of its kind operated by the State of Florida. $9.4 million in funding for the complex came from the Florida Legislature with the Board of County Commissioners, Palm Beach County providing the land and $1.5 million for future maintenance. The center will be operated by the Palm Beach County Health Department a division of the Florida Department of Health.
According to Dr. Birnberg, "We anticipate it taking a little time before we are fully functional." However, Dr. Birnberg added that he expects the Health Center will be able to serve up to 500 persons per day by December 10, 2002.
