WEST PALM BEACH, FL-
Palm Beach County Health
Department was recognized
today for its work to
protect the public in the
event of health emergencies,
infectious disease outbreaks
and other public health
threats by the National
Association of County and
City Health Officials (NACCHO)
The Health Department has under gone an extensive review on
its ability to handle public
emergencies by NACCHO and
the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention under
the auspices of Project
Public Health Ready.
“We have faced many public health challenges through the
years here in Palm Beach
County. It is gratifying to
be recognized as being one
of the leaders in high level
preparedness and ready to
serve the community’s health
and safety in an emergency,”
said Health Department
Director Jean M. Malecki,
M.D.
To gain recognition, Project Public Health Ready required the
Health Department to achieve
goals in three key areas:
preparedness planning,
individual worker
competence; and
demonstration of all-hazards
readiness through exercises.
The recognition confirms
that Palm Beach County’s
Health Department has an
emergency response plan in
place, the plan is
appropriately connected to
other jurisdictional
emergency response plans,
agency staff members are
trained, and the plan is
exercised and used during
public health and other
community emergencies.
Patrick Libby, Executive Director of NACCHO said, “The public
health system still has work
to do when it comes to
preparedness, but we are
making great strides thanks
to the good work of the Palm
Beach County Health
Department. “
Other agencies recognized were; two in California, two in
Georgia, Maryland, Missouri,
Texas, Minnesota, Illinois
and New York. Orange County
Health Department was also
recognized in Florida..
