Palm Beach County Health
Department will join with
its community partners for
fitness and fun during the
third annual “Step Up, Palm
Beach County – On Our Way to
Healthy Living,” Tuesday,
February 14, 2006 as part of
the statewide “Step up
Florida” relay promoting
physical activity and
healthy lifestyles.
On Tuesday morning the fitness flag, which is making its way
through all 67 Florida
counties, will be passed
from Broward County to Palm
Beach at the City of Palm
Beach Gardens Park, 4404
Burns Road, at 7:00 AM.
During the flag passing
remarks will be made by
representatives of Palm
Beach Gardens and Health
Department Director Jean M.
Malecki, M.D. All will then
be invited to participate in
a fitness walk led by the
representatives of the Palm
Beach Gardens Recreation
Department and Palm Beach
County Health Department. Dr
Jean Malecki, said, “Our
County has many
opportunities to maintain a
healthy and active
lifestyle. A great way to
start off any day is with a
brisk walk.”
From 10:00 AM till 1:00 PM the Health Department’s Nutrition
division will be
participating in a Palm
Beach Community College,
Eissey Campus, employee
health fair to promote
healthy eating choices,
physical activity and Palm
Beach County on the Move a
year long participatory
lifestyle of fitness and
nutrition.
The fitness flag will also move to the Winn-Dixie at Federal
Highway and Silver Beach
Road, Riviera Beach where
the public is invited to
take part in a “Healthy
Foods” treasure Hunt
throughout the day from
10:30 AM to 4:00 PM. On hand
will be members of the
Winn-Dixie pharmacy, along
with representatives from
WIC, Nutrition Palm Beach
County on the Move and
others to assist patrons on
their hunt for healthy
foods.
Other Florida counties will host similar events throughout
February. A website will
provide a map of the events,
a chronological look at the
progress each day and
highlight the distance
covered by each leg. For
