Delray Beach, FL-The Community Health Division of the Palm Beach County Health Department has been taking a holistic approach to what makes this community healthy now and in the future. Three strategic issues have emerged:

  • How will the county consistently improve health outcomes of its residents?
  • How will quality, equitable, affordable and accessible health services be linked?
  • What can be done to create an affordable, safe and caring environment for all of our residents?

The fourth in the series of five workshops on how to create a healthy community with these strategic issues in mind, will take place February 16, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Pompey Park Auditorium, 1101 NW 2nd Street. This workshop will cover two areas, Environment and Physical Fitness, and public input is welcome.

Environment will be hosted by Palm Beach County Health Department Environmental Division, Department of Environmental Protection, Palm Beach County Department of Planning, Zoning and Building with a topic of adequate green and open space around neighborhoods and town centers for people to play, recreate, and relax. Physical Activity will be lead by Prime Time, Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation and Palm Beach County Sports Institute with a visioning of ample bike paths, walking and equestrian trails, play areas, sport fields, and courts. Also a community with structured activities like swimming, dancing, aerobics, motorcycle racing, and specific population based activities.

The final workshop covering People/Family, Transportation/Travel will take place February 28 in Royal Palm Beach.

The Community Health Division has been developing plans and strategies that will set the direction of health in our community over the next 10 years.
