PALM BEACH, FL--Mother’s
Day, May 13, marks the
beginning of National
Women’s Health Week and the
Palm Beach County Health
Department will be working
to improve the health and
well-being of women across
the county.
“I believe that women can
improve their health by
taking just a few simple
steps like evaluating their
nutrition, learning about
their risk factors and
taking preventive actions,”
said Health Department
Director Jean M. Malecki,
MD.
Malecki has asked all
nutritionists, doctors,
nurses and other staff of
the Health Department to be
available to answer
questions women may have
regarding their health not
only during women’s health
week but throughout the
year.
On May 17 from 1:00 PM to
6:00 PM the Health
Department’s C.L. Brumback
Health Center, 38754 State
Road 80, Belle Glade will be
hosting Women’s Health Day.
Numerous activities are
planned including,
screenings for breast and
cervical cancer, diabetes,
hypertension, glucose,
STD’s, depression, oral
health, immunizations, and
HIV. Other activities will
include seminars on
nutrition and physical
health. Community
representatives from Legal
Aide, housing, health
insurance, credit
counseling, parenting,
medication assistance and
other organizations will
also be available to discuss
issues that affect women’s
health.
National Women’s Health Week
began eight years ago to
bring attention to the broad
range of physical, social
and economic issues faced by
women. Information can be
