PALM BEACH
COUNTY, FL – Last Summer
2,200 children were able to
attend summer camp through
scholarships from the
Governor's Council for
Community Health
Partnerships. All of these
children are looking for
help to return again this
summer.
"Since 1995 we have been able to grow the number of children
served through our Summer
Camp Scholarship Program,"
said Executive Director
Erica Whitfield. "This year
we are expecting a greater
number of children needing
placement in camp programs.
We need to at least match
previous years and are
asking all for their
support."
The Summer Camp program sends low-income children to
established summer camps.
Most of these children would
be staying home or roaming
the streets while school
takes a break. Another
aspect of the program
provides these children with
nutritious meals they
otherwise may not receive.
“Our criteria for a child to qualify for a summer camp
scholarship are all based on
need. So far, we are seeing
a much greater need this
year and we are asking
everyone to support this
program through a cash
donation,” added Whitfield.
“It takes $660 to send one
child all summer but we will
accept any amount a person
is willing to contribute.”
Funding for this program is received from foundations,
corporations, county
government and individuals
who care enough to make a
difference in a child's
life.
Donations can be made to the Governor's Council for Community
Health Partnerships at 1665
Palm Beach Lakes Blvd, Suite
900, West Palm Beach, 33401
or by calling 561-355-3081.
