PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL—Kick
Butts Day recognizes our
youth speaking up about the
dangers of tobacco use and
how this dangerous addiction
begins. The Palm Beach
County Health Department’s
Tobacco Prevention and
Control Program and Roger
Dean Stadium are sponsoring
Kick Butts Day on Wednesday,
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:30
a.m. before the St. Louis
Cardinals vs. New York Mets
Spring Training game.
75 members of Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) from
John I. Leonard and Royal
Palm Beach High Schools will
demonstrate a giant
interactive board game,
participate in street
marketing, and have a
Project 88 display to
visually demonstrate how
tobacco use impacts our
lives. In the state of
Florida, 88 people die every
day as a result of tobacco
use and secondhand smoke
exposure.
Kick Butts Day is a national day of advocacy empowering youth
to take a stand against Big
Tobacco and the marketing
tactics it employs to push
its deadly product,
resulting in 3,000 kids
becoming regular smokers
daily.
Palm Beach County has 16 SWAT clubs with over 400 middle and
high school students
participating in activities
and education about factors
leading to tobacco use and
the resulting consequences
of this addiction.
