PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL—Each
year hundreds of babies are
born in Palm Beach County to
teens. Even more alarming
are the more than 200 babies
born to girls 16 and under.
Simply talking with teens
can help them make good
relationship decisions and
equip them with the
knowledge needed to plan
their future.
The Teen Pregnancy
Prevention Coalition is
dedicated to generating
awareness for teens and
their parents on early
sexual activity. In addition
to the possible resulting
pregnancy other issues teens
should be aware of are the
need for HIV/AIDS testing,
Human Paploma Virus (HPV)
vaccinations, STD testing,
family planning, birth
control methods,
relationships and parenting.
The coalition wants to get
teens talking and has made
arrangements with the
Children’s Services Council
of Palm Beach County to link
teens with good information
through the internet at
www.pbcteens.org .
Through this website, teens
will have access to various
online activities and are
encouraged to participate in
the National Quiz throughout
the month of May.
“Educating teen’s early on
sexual activities and the
associated possible outcomes
gives them the tools to make
informed decisions on
positive prevention
activities,” said School
Health Director Dr. Marsha
Fishbane.
Members of the Coalition
include, Palm Beach County
Health Department, School
District of Palm Beach
County, Planned Parenthood,
Healthy Mothers/Healthy
Babies, Healthy Beginnings,
Health Care District of Palm
Beach County, and Children’s
Services Council of Palm
Beach County.
